Singing is among the most elemental human experiences and it’s something almost everyone does, even when no one is listening. In fact, in 2011 the national service organization Chorus America reported that 42.6 million people in the United States sing in more than 270,000 choruses. That’s over and above those of us whose singing is largely confined to the shower.
Some people are turned off by the word choir. But many others are encouraging singing for fun and for joy, outside formal choirs but instead in bars, parks, and festivals. They’re discovering that communal singing is an energizing and celebratory shared experience.
Join us on May 29 at On Being Studios on Loring Park to participate in communal music-making that will stir your soul. Tesfa will de-bunk your stereotypes of being in a choir, share his ideas about the transformational power of choral music, and unlock the mysteries of choral voice parts (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass).
